From ancient times, wanderers and explorers have been irresistibly drawn to the mysterious beauties of Greece. The Romans and Venetians conquered its lands, only to be conquered in turn by Greece’s indescribable light and air, crystal-clear waters, sweeping mountain ranges, thyme-scented fields, great philosophers and architectural wonders. The monuments and castles these conquerors left behind are still there today. It was in Greece that democracy was born, the wisdom of Socrates, Plato and Aristotle flourished and Julius Caesar consulted with the Oracle at Delphi. Many modern writers, such as Henry Miller, Lawrence Durrell and Edith Hamilton, have extolled Greece’s virtues in their books. Travelers who seek similar cultural experiences in Greece are often limited to mass-marketed three-day tours of Athens and the islands. Greece is so much more than that! It is rich in history and ancient archeological discoveries, and has more than 50 beautiful islands to visit. Most travel agents in the U. S. are just not knowledgeable enough, nor have the time to plan an interesting, comprehensive tour of Greece.
